As Cempakans move from Michelia to Primary School (typically during the year they turn 6 years old), they carry with them the ability to work together, choose mindfully, and approach challenges with positivity. The Finnish curriculum builds on these foundations by emphasising holistic development, with a focus on inculcating transversal skills competences, integrated subjects, and continued social and emotional development alongside academic progress and achievement.

The primary school is a very special time where Cempakans (and their families) are finding their feet. The first three years, the “Lower Primary School” years are spent getting used to new schedules and activities at every turn, and discovering new ways of interacting with others and navigating friendships. As Cempakans progress to the “Upper Primary School” years (Year 4 to 6), they are continue to develop their tranversal competences and the academic setting expands to include new subjects such as Woodwork and Home Economics. Student leadership and school representation opportunities open up as Cempakans progress through primary school, to be further developed in secondary school.
