42 Years of

Journeys

SCROLL

We are a leading international school for students aged two to eighteen years, located in the serene suburb of Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur. Our early childhood, primary, secondary and pre-university classes are on a single campus. This cohesive environment underscores our commitment to fostering familial connections and collective growth.

We are the first school in the country to offer a truly comprehensive Finnish school model with Finnish faculty and a learning environment that fully aligns with Finnish pedagogy. With this strong learning foundation, students progress seamlessly into graduating with one of the country’s strongest IGCSE and A Level track records.

As we enter our 42nd year, we remain true to our original identity and mission: a school built by a family for other families who believe that learning should be a joyful, meaningful and lasting journey through which we create a solid foundation for a healthy mindset, resilient work ethic and positive moral values.

The
First
Ode

A place to learn,
    A place to grow,
To drink from a fountain of values,
    That will forever flow.

A place to explore,
    Open depths of mind,
To question when I am lost,
To reveal when un-chartered land I find.

A place of challenge,
    Met with dignified persistence,
Where hurdles can be overcome,
    With resilience, not resistance.

Learning is at the core of everything we do

Our mission is to cultivate within every Cempakan a love for learning, fostering a vibrant curiosity and zest within a nurturing and supportive environment that sets up all students to thrive.

This not only enhances their academic performance but also equips them with the essential skills and mindset needed to navigate an ever-changing world successfully. This foundation provides the launchpad for lifelong growth, future success and fulfilment, both academically and personally.

The Finnish Education Model

The Finnish education model is widely regarded as one of the most successful and effective education systems in the world. It is a global benchmark for its success in promoting high academic achievement, equity and student well-being. The Finnish curriculum allows for content localisation, making it especially amenable to creating culturally relevant contexts for learning anywhere in the world.

A key feature of the Finnish education model is its emphasis on the learning process, student well-being and the development of social and emotional skills. It does this through a broad and robust framework that covers core competencies, skills and knowledge. The model is characterised by its interdisciplinary and authentic approach to learning, teacher professionalism, principles of equity and inclusion, holistic evaluation and community engagement, which collectively contribute to Finland’s outstanding educational outcomes and international reputation.

Enablers of the education model success are Finnish teachers. University placement for teaching in Finland is highly selective and training is among the most rigorous in the world: only approximately the top 10% of applicants gain seats in university teacher training programs. All Finnish teachers have a 5-year research-based master’s degree in education with intensive practice, in addition to specialist qualifications, e.g. special education, physical education and music.

In terms of global competitiveness, Finland consistently ranks among the top countries in the world for skills in both the current and future workforce and critical thinking in teaching.

Many countries look to Finland as a source of inspiration and best practices. Principles aligned with this model are now forming integral cornerstones of education reform in the UK, Singapore and Australia.

Internationalism, Personal Heritage and Living In An Interconnected World

Remaining true to personal cultural identities amidst international exposure and mindset

Our commitment to internationalism stems from recognising that we live in an interconnected world. We understand and appreciate diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, but we also recognise that an individual’s heritage needs to be preserved, giving us a sense of identity and belonging.

Cempakans actively engage with their peers from around the world through the International Schools Association, the oldest and one of the most prestigious schools network worldwide, of which our school has been a member for more than a decade. Through student and teacher exchange programmes, year-round Combined Special Projects, school trips and the annual ISA Youth Leadership Encounter, Cempakans gain invaluable insights into other cultures and perspectives.

While internationalism and global mindedness are crucial aspects of modern education, it is equally vital to honour and preserve each child’s heritage and sense of belonging to their local community.

Our Finnish school model is deliberately designed to include the application of curriculum content to local society, culture and environment, with the aim of adding relevance and meaning to the learning journey at our school.

Harum Semerbak

Merata-rata

“Where Cempaka seeds are sowed,
Mountains/forests will come up,
Where Cempaka … are strewn,
Islands will flourish. ”

The idea came from the reference to our school song line “Cempaka semerbak merata-rata”, referring to the adaptability of Cempakans.

Phase 1

Buds

Within the Under 3s Buds timetable, we incorporate all aspects of Michelia’s curriculum for your child’s development. This includes the following:

[feature carousell section]

This early learning, in which language between the adults and child plays a very important role, is one of the most important times in a child’s life. Children need to be given opportunities to investigate, explore, and develop an understanding of their immediate and wider environments.

In this exploration of their environments, children are involved in observation, questioning, discussion, prediction, analysis, exploration, investigation, and experimentation. Through the processes that are undertaken by the child in their learning, they will be able to construct, modify and develop a broad range of scientific concepts and ideas.

We have always taken pride in our strong academic track record. Cempakans consistently achieve some of the best results in the country, securing places at prestigious universities around the world. However, we believe that education is about more than just grades.

We want every Cempakan to leave our doors not only with impressive academic achievements but also with skills, values, and a healthy mindset that will serve them well throughout their lives. We want them to graduate with deep and lasting friendships and fond memories of a happy and successful school career.

Globally recognised as one of the best in the world, the Finnish education system aligns perfectly with our aspirations for our students’ long-term success.

While many schools focus solely on academic outcomes, we believe in providing a holistic education that prepares students for life beyond the classroom. In addition to stellar grades in their IGCSE and A-Level exams, Cempakans will also have a much stronger foundation to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Our commitment to internationalism stems from recognising that we live in an interconnected world. We understand and appreciate diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, but we also recognise that an individual’s heritage needs to be preserved, giving us a sense of identity and belonging.
